A Special Senior Boy Portrait Session in Richardson

I photograph a lot of senior girls, but boys deserve to have really nice senior portraits, too!  I am a mom of two boys and I know when they are seniors, I'll insist they have a session!

Long ago, I was a software engineer. As I mentioned before in my geek confession post, I have math degrees. I know, I know....

But, for going on 8 years now, I've been a photographer, which is way more fun.

Anyway, back when I was a software engineer, I worked with, and eventually for, Susan.  She and I became friends quickly and through these years of being a small business owner, we have met for lunch pretty regularly. Well, last week, she retired and will be moving away, so last week's lunch was our last lunch for a while.  I will miss her but hope to go visit when they get settled in their new home.

I had the pleasure of photographing her youngest child, Aaron, about three years ago. What a sweet young man.  As a tribute to my friend, I wanted to blog about our session a bit.

Here are some favorite portraits of him:

Photographing boys and girls are pretty different, I must say. I approach boys with the intent to make them look masculine and natural.  It's the natural part that is problematic at times with boys because they can be pretty uncomfortable in front of the camera.  This is where my trusty assistant, my husband, Paul, helps me a lot.  Paul loves talking about college and sports, so the boys seem to really enjoy that.  It helps them relax and not feel as self-conscious.  Well, Aaron had no trouble in front of the camera.  He is an easy-going guy with a ready smile.

So, to my friend, Susan, I wish you the best!  I will miss you and look forward to when we meet next time!
